"This hotel is well located and has a great pool. recomneded it to families or for restful relaxation after outback tours or in combination with a journey on The Ghan train whose intineraies begin and end in darwin. The upgrading by Double tree will help to ensure this remians a popular and welcming resort-style hotlin the city."

THE BACKGROUND: Formerly owned by Holiday Inn, this property and the Doubletree by Hilton-Darwin(next door) have been undergoing upgreades since becoming part of the Hilton group.

THE LOCATION: A 15-minutes drive from the airport, this hotel is located on The Esplanada, close to the restaurants and bars of Mitchell Street and peacefully overlooking the Esplanade parklands and sea. It offers easy access to the city's attractive walking trail.

THE ROOM: We stayed in a suite which was bright, airy and very spacious with a huge lounge area, dining room, kitchenette and toilet on the lower level plus a large bathroom, dressing room, desk/seating area with sofa bed and bedroom on the mezzazine level above. The bathroom, with oversized shower, jacuzzi bath and double sink, was styled in marble and impressive in its size, but the highlight of the accomodation was the extensive private balcony with great sea and sunset views, loungers and private spa baths.

KEY FACILITIES: The large reception was a bright and open, bordered by lounge to one side but lacked atmosphere. The large attractive pool in Darwin. There was also a gym and DIY guest launfry. Wifi was not included and cost a $28 for 24 hour period. Twenty minutes of free wifi are available each day in the lounge area.

THE RESTAURANT/BARS: The restaurant, located next to the receotion, served a good buffet breakfast and led directly onto a large pool area with dining terrace bar, seating and sun loungers. This was popular hub of the hotel.

RATES: Standard rooms from around £145 a night.
